So lets look at a variety of ways in which a glass shower screen or wet room glass panel can be secured in place. As an example we will examine a glass shower panel with a width of 700mm and a height of 2000mm. There are further variants on how to fit a shower screen, contact us for more.
The most common and straightforward option is to secure the glass with surface mounted U Channel. The U Channel option allows for the glass to secured on two sides, the vertical wall side and the underside where it meets the tray, wet room floor, the top of a bath or other flat surface. The external depth of the U Channel is 19mm, with an internal depth of 16mm, allowing for the material thickness. As a rule of thumb, a reduction in the glass size of 5mm is advised from the overall width and height, to take into account a fitting tolerance.

As an alternative to just using U Channel, a small leg shower glass clamp can be used in conjunction with the wall mounted 19mm deep U Channel. This glass clamp is typically placed between 50mm and 80mm along the lower edge. The glass clamp does require a drilled hole, so this would need to be discussed prior to ordering and production. This is a popular choice when the customer doesn't want to have U Channel positioned on both sides, but still wants to maintain rigidity of the glass panel.

For an example that doesn't use U Channel at all, let's look at the wall to glass clamp option. The wall to glass clamps fix to the wall and require two drilled holes per clamp to be fabricated in the glass. The benefit of this option is that there isn't any U Channel which needs to be cut and drilled to suit the installation, just drill into the wall, use relevant fixings and that's it. A silicone bead is advised down either side of the glass to make water tight. These wall to glass clamps are also near enough identical to our wall to glass hinges, so if creating an inline enclosure, this is worth investigating, check our image here to better illustrate.
